Author E.S. Corby has released a new book, “Nonbinary, Trans, Pan, and Lovesick,” a collection of autobiographical poetry that explores the complexities of gender, and self-discovery. The book is a form of release and expression for Corby, who struggled with insecurity surrounding his gender. Through poetry, Corby was able to process and understand himself better and hopes to share that power with others.
“Nonbinary, Trans, Pan, and Lovesick” is a vulnerable and honest exploration of the queer world, using comedy and anecdotes to express the uncomfortable ins and awkward outs of gender, and love. The book is a universal reflection on self-discovery and the struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community. Corby’s goal is to encourage readers to reflect on themselves, both the good and bad and be content with who they are.
“What started as self-therapy became something larger,” explained Corby. “I wrote ‘Nonbinary, Trans, Pan, and Lovesick’ with the intent to get rid of the insecurity that nestled in my body. I have always struggled with my gender, and perhaps I always will, but I started this collection in hopes of processing and understanding myself better. Parsing through my feelings through poetry allowed me to do that. I wanted to feel safe being myself, from myself. I want to share that power with others. They may have had similar experiences, or may not have, but everyone can relate to the universal concept of self-discovery. Having this book out into the world will, hopefully, encourage readers to reflect on themselves and their own experiences, and know that they are not alone.”
Corby’s book is a timely release, as the world continues to become more accepting of the LGBTQIA+ community. Yet, there is still a long way to go in terms of understanding and acceptance. Through his poetry, Corby is contributing to the conversation and helping to break down barriers.
