2023 INCLUSION·Conference on the Bund Successfully Concludes in Shanghai

The 2023 INCLUSION·Conference on the Bund officially concluded on September 9, 2023 at the Huangpu World Expo Park in Shanghai. The premier three-day event focused on the theme of “Technology for a Sustainable Future”. The event brought together industry leaders, global experts, and thought pioneers who gathered to exchange insights, ideas, and approaches to foster inclusivity and sustainability while advancing finance and technology.

The main forum of the conference discussed the latest technological advancements such as generative AI, the importance of leveraging technology to support global industrial innovation and building a sustainable future. The conference also featured 36 insight forums on industrial vitality, technological innovation and sustainable development.

Generative AI was one of the focal points of discussion in the main forum. Michael I. Jordan, Academician of the NAS, the NAE, explained the challenge of uncertainty quantification. Renhe Zhang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of Fudan University, elaborated on AI’s role in scientific research, while Jifeng He, Academician of CAS, addressed safety issues in the era of large-scale models.

Other esteemed global speakers included Razan Al Mubarak, President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature; Joe Ngai, Chairman of McKinsey Greater China; Michael Sheren, Senior Advisor to the UNDP Sustainable Finance Hub and Director of Lujiazui Financial City Green Finance Development Center; Eric Jing, Chairman and CEO of Ant Group; Hongjiang Zhang, International Academician of the NAE; Mohammed Badi, President of Global Network Services, American Express; Monsinee Nakapanant, Co-President of Ascend Money and Timothy Utama, Information Technology Director at Bank Mandiri. They deliberated on the subjects of industrial innovation and sustainable development.

The 36 insights forums, which extended over three days, covered a wide range of topics from industry, technology and sustainability. For example, Joseph Sifakis, Founder and Emeritus Research Director at Verimag Laboratory and 2007 Turing Award Winner, gave a keynote speech on AI and the innovation of the digital economy, while other forums addressed the ethics of AI and safety issues.

During the insight form, “Expanding digital technology cooperation to unlock new growth opportunities worldwide”, Roberto Chade, CEO and Co-founder of Dotz, Shaozhang Ding, Vice President of Digital Sales, DFS Group and Tim Huang, Deputy CEO, JPMorgan Chase Bank (China) Company Limited joined a lively discussion with Douglas Feagin, Head of Alipay+ Cross-Border Mobile Payment Services, Ant Group to discuss how the global payment community can help merchants unlock the future of growth with digital tools.

The insight forums were designed to discuss the progress of technology, as well as to address challenges and propose solutions. Esteemed guests from international organizations and regulatory agencies shared their perspectives on the importance of public-private partnerships in safeguarding the financial system. Notable guests included Mingyou Bao, Deputy Director General of Anti-Money Laundering Bureau of the People’s Bank of China; Beju Shah, Head of Innovation Hub Nordic Centre, Bank of International Settlements; Stewart McGlynn, Head of Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crime Risk, Hong Kong Monetary Authority; and Yuchen Gu, AML Specialist Leader in AML Risk Solutions, Monetary Authority of Singapore. The guest speakers deliberated on the essential role of new technologies and advanced data analytics in driving faster and more effective risk management across the financial industry.

2023 INCLUSION·Conference on the Bund included a 8,000 square meter technology exhibition and 3,000 square meter green market place for conference goers from around the world.

The 2023 INCLUSION·Conference on the Bund is organized by a consortium of institutions and organizations, including Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai United Media Group, Shanghai Bund Investment Group, and Ant Group.

The inaugural INCLUSION·Conference on the Bund successfully concluded on September 26, 2020, with the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and the support of the Shanghai Municipal Financial Regulatory Bureau and People’s Government of Huangpu District, Shanghai.
